Rushenden Link Road Preparation Works

22nd October 2008

SEEDA appointed Civil Engineers Edmund Nuttall Limited arrived on site at Neatscourt at the beginning of October 2008 to do the site preparation works, thereby triggering the physical start of the Queenborough & Rushenden Regeneration Project at Neatscourt.  The work will include archaeological and ecological works, site preparation for the new Aldi regional headquarters and the Amicus Horizon headquarters & enabling works for the new

Rushenden Link Road
.

The Edmund Nuttall Site Civil Engineering Manager is Mark Williams and the following progress report was received from Mark on the 21st October 2008.

·          The erection of the green Avian Fence to avoid distress to wild birds during the construction process has now been completed

·          The first layer of Topsoil is being removed to check for archaeological remains and carry out ecological works.  The Topsoil strip of plot 1c  to the eastern end of the site is ongoing and is currently 50% complete.

·          Top soil strip of the Port Authority land for the IMG Car Depot new extension to their existing car park will commence on Wednesday 22-10-08.

·          Rill creation to the SSSI land south of the site will be complete at the end of this week.  (Rill:  a shallow ditch used to allow the rising water levels to create islands most suitable for nesting wading birds)

·         In the next few weeks we intend starting the main excavation in plot 1c, following discharge of the uncovered archaeology, which will allow the main earthwork bund to commence along the southern boundary of plot 1b (Aldi plot).  Following discharge of the archaeology on the Port Authority land we will start the fill and excavations for new ditches for extending the IMG car parking facility.

·         We ask that the public remain fully aware of the dangers of entering a construction site ? public access is prohibited, particularly for children and motorcycle joy riders.

·         Job vacancies will be advertised at The Gateway ? though these are very limited in the early stages of the preparation work, they could include  drainage, black top, kerbing etc.. Job Applicants can leave their details at The Gateway.
