Communities
The needs and aspirations of the local community are of key importance to the regeneration of Queenborough and Rushenden. Those shaping the project are fully aware that everyone, especially residents, MUST have a say in how the development evolves. Already a Communities and Skills Group has been set up, which includes five residents from Queenborough and Rushenden, to discuss all aspects of the regeneration. This group is meeting every month to ensure that people living in the area are kept informed of all aspects of the project and can have their say on the Masterplanning process. Other representatives in the group are from Queenborough Town Council, SEEDA, Swale Forward, Kent County Council, Amicus Horizon and the Rushenden Care Home. The Masterplan will look at the needs and aspirations of the communities including key areas such as education and training, local business needs and ensuring any development reflects the area’s rich cultural heritage.
Community involvement in the Masterplan will be ensured by regular consultations, a quarterly newsletter, events, competitions and school projects. The Communities and Skills Group will also advise the Steering Group and other teams on the needs of people in the area, help identify the skills and services that the communities require and also highlight any concerns people have about aspects of the regeneration.
