Business
One of the key principles behind Queenborough & Rushenden Regeneration is the creation of employment opportunities and the protection and enhancement of existing businesses. Although most of the brownfield element of the site is currently an employment area, many parts of it are vacant, under-occupied and derelict, representing a major long-term opportunity for the area.
The huge improvement in infrastructure with the completion of the A249 dual carriageway and the development of the Rushenden Link Road, will be a major factor in encouraging employment investment. The new road infrastructure will create a new direct dual carriageway link to the national motorway network, putting Sheppey in a completely different employment generating position than it is at the moment. This linked with the two railway stations at Queenborough and Sheerness, a considerable amount of employment land and the availability of the port make it a very attractive and sustainable employment location.
Kent is the closest point between Britain and continental Europe, making it an important gateway for both British and European companies. With improved access and opportunities encouraging a greater diversity within the service and technology sectors, the Isle of Sheppey is at a crossroads to new employment opportunities.
SEEDA is committed to making land and buildings specifically available within the development to support existing firms and to meet specific objectives such as training and development, as well as encouraging inward investment.
