Vision

The regeneration of Queenborough & Rushenden is not just about building new housing, it is about safeguarding the cultural heritage of the area, protecting the environment and helping to raise the quality of life by providing new jobs, leisure facilities, local shops, better local facilities and public transport.

A masterplan, which takes into account the needs of the existing and new communities whilst maximising the land use opportunities is being developed with input from those who live, work and provide services within the area. This is a scheme that will give the local community the chance to shape its own future and the way the area will be regenerated.

The area has great potential, a historic waterfront, run-down industrial areas that can become the home of brand new workplaces and derelict land that can be used to meet a variety of housing needs. Likely features of the development include mixed-use schemes for employment, provision of new homes of a mixture of scale and density and a clean up of areas contaminated over the years by industrial use. There will be major road improvements, education and training to fill skills gaps in the area, marine employment and tourism opportunities.

Leaders of the regeneration project SEEDA are working with key partners Swale Borough Council, Kent County Council and Swale Forward to create a community of the highest design standards with state-of-the-art environmental features to create a truly vibrant, sustainable area.
